No, it's not April 1st....
Telewest are working on a way to add smell to email.
Apparently they reckon it could be used by supermarkets to tempt people with the smell of fresh bread or by holiday companies seeking to stir up images of sun-kissed beaches. Only snag is if you fancy the idea of smelly emails you'll need to fork out 250 quid for a "scent dome"...

"would only work with a high-speed, broadband connection"

Of course Telewest would say /that/. I suspect that the reality is that it wouldn't require much data transfer at all - probably less than one of those annoying embedded images.

It's a rather silly idea, though.

I saw that on the telly last night, I was very tired so thought I'd dreamt it after.

I bet it'd just get used for spam.

well what else would you use it for really?

It'd be just like scratch and sniff cards.

Product-related smell in spam is not, since half my spam is about the lengthening of things, a thought that I appreciate very much.

We heard it on the radio. I just thought of sending the bankmanager one smelling of poo *giggle*
